Argon oxygen decarburization (AOD) process is used to make stainless steel and special steel, including tool steel, silicon steel, low alloy steel and low carbon steel. During this process, the tuyere is submerged, leading to high element recovery, rapid and effective desulphurization, and good chemical control of slag.

Magnesia chrome brick is selected as tuyere and tuyere mat brick. It contains 100% fused magnesium-chromium particles that make bricks resistant to mechanical and chemical erosion. The bottom of AOD of magnesium-chrome brick and 17 chrome content magnesium-chrome brick all use the shock pad at the bottom. They contain large amounts of molten particles, which make bricks resistant to slag.
